About UsThe Red Bluff Pigeon Club was founded in 1998 in Red Bluff, CA by Walt and Marge Shaffer and other local pigeon fanciers. Red Bluff is at the northern end of the beautiful Sacramento Valley, though current members are spread north to Cottonwood and south to Corning and Los Molinos. The club strives to promote the breeding and care of healthy homing pigeons as well as a competitive young bird racing season, culminating in a 300+mile race from Bend, Oregon each fall. In 2003, Walt decided to join forces with daughter-in-law, Karen, and the county 4-H youth groups to further educate and promote pigeon flying in junior members. Since this date, the number of young members, both 4H and other juniors, has grown to over 18. Meetings are exciting with young members practicing showing birds and learning about the care of their birds. A clean loft competition is held each year prior to the racing season as well as an award ceremony and swimming party at the end of the season. Various showing events are held at the local fairs in addition to the races. Many people from all over the west coast have graciously donated birds to supplement Walt's breeding program for the young members. In the past few years, the Red Bluff Pigeon Club has also sponsored the "Four Winds Classic" in order to raise money for clocks for the junior members. The Red Bluff Pigeon Club is proud of its accomplishments to date and looks forward to many exciting racing seasons to come. |
